The M3GAN universe is growing again, but this time the horror takes a darker, more adult sci-fi turn.
SOULM8TE is the upcoming science-fiction thriller from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and Atomic Monster, and it now has a confirmed digital release date. Originally expected to arrive in cinemas, the film will now be released on digital platforms on August 1, 2026.
Directed by Kate Dolan, SOULM8TE follows a grieving engineer who is pulled into testing a new AI companion after a ruthless tech giant acquires his company. Still broken by loss, he tries to program the android to become something more than a machine — a truly sentient soulmate.
But the closer she gets to becoming human, the more dangerous her needs become.
What begins as a story about grief, loneliness, and artificial companionship quickly spirals into a brutal tale of obsession, control, and precision-engineered mayhem.

A New Chapter in the M3GAN Universe
SOULM8TE serves as a spin-off from M3GAN, expanding the world of AI-driven horror with a story that appears to lean more into thriller territory than the original film. While M3GAN explored the dangers of artificial intelligence through the lens of a killer doll, SOULM8TE takes the concept in a more intimate and unsettling direction.
This is not just another machine-gone-wrong story. The film taps into one of the biggest modern fears around AI: what happens when technology designed to comfort us starts wanting something back?

Why SOULM8TE Could Be One to Watch
With Blumhouse and Atomic Monster behind the film, SOULM8TE already has horror pedigree built into its DNA. Add in James Wan’s involvement, the connection to M3GAN, and a premise built around grief, obsession, and AI companionship, and this could become one of 2026’s most talked-about digital thriller releases.
Could SOULM8TE be the darkest entry in the M3GAN universe so far?
0%Yes — this looks seriously twisted
0%Maybe — need to see more first
0%No — M3GAN is still the one to beat
0%I’m just here for the AI chaos
The trailer suggests a film that is sleek, dangerous, and deeply uncomfortable in all the right ways. It is not just asking whether AI can become human — it is asking what happens when humanity becomes the flaw in the machine.
SOULM8TE arrives on digital platforms on August 1, 2026.
